The bidding on the Colt Thompson did not reach the reserve price (25K I think) so that gun (as well as a few others) dd no sell.

here is a the description of the Thompson provided by Julia:

COLT THOMPSON MODEL 1921AC SUBMACHINE GUN (C&R). SN 7232. Cal. 45ACP. 12-1/2" bbl with unmarked Cutts compensator, Lyman rear sight, and vertical foregrip. Incl. correct commercial stock without sling swivels. Orig 1921 internal parts. Also incl. purple velvet lined F.B.I. hard case with reinforced metal corners and fasteners marked "Eagle Lock Co.". Accessories also include two 20 rnd stick magazines, an "Auto-Ordnance Corp" marked 50 round "L" mag and one orig Military technical manual TM 9-215, dated October 1942. Action functions smoothly when cycled by hand. This weapon appears fully functional. CONDITION: Fine. 90% strong orig finish, somewhat thin on the high points, and buttplate. Pistol grip and foregrip in excellent condition with only minor handling marks. Butt stock shows normal handling marks and scratches to the wood, but still very handsome and wood color matches. Bore is very shiny and bright. Bolt face and ejector have crisp lines. Velvet in case is slightly soiled and worn in high corners and outside of case has a 2" mar where fabric is broken on bottom right. Stick mags are in fine condition, manual is in very good condition with some folded corners to the pages, but all pages are present and serviceable. 4-39807 (25,000-35,000)

For this gun to not hit the reserve price is indicative of where values are right now.

Could be that the claimed 90% condition didn't impress the bidders in attendance for this particular auction. But a Colt 1921AC #7816 listed in the dreaded J.C. Devine auction one year ago last month, without any accessories, fetched somewhere in the $20K to $25K when the economy was no better than it is now.

But if we are to gage the market of the Colt TSMG from this auction, I guess we can use previous Colt TSMG auctions to set the standard for their times as well.

Rock Island Auction Company 2006

"A new world record was set when a Model 1921 Thompson submachine gun sold for $80,500 (est. $25,000/45,000). Consigned by the Rock Island County Sheriff's Department, it had been sitting around for decades, an artifact of the Roaring Twenties gangland era. There was conjecture that local outlaw John Looney, whose story is loosely depicted in the film Road to Perdition, used this gun."

"The previous record was set in May 2005 when J.C. Devine, Bedford, New Hampshire, sold an earlier Model 1921 Thompson for $43,125. It had come from the police department in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania. Technically, the version sold by Rock Island was a Model 1921AC, due to improvements".

Or maybe these exceptionally high prices are no more indicative of the market then the exceptionally low prices.

The markings on the drum lead me to believe it is a westy drum

"registered in the US Patent office" + the stamping bump outs on the plate.

I wonder what value they assigned to that drum in respect to the reserve?

I hope they weren't thinking a $200 drum is worth $2000

I found it interesting the 1928 West Hurley brought $12,650 plus the buyers commission. I thought the selling price would be much lower. I have seen several 1928 WH's advertised in the 12K range recently. It would be interesting to know the buyers thoughts behind this purchase.
