Stoner SR25 Carbine

Was playing around this evening, waiting for word back on some other stuff I need to shoot…. Here are some shots of a Pre-Ban SR25, from across the room all the way down to macro territory… If you are thinking of getting a lens for firearm photography consider a Macro… In this case it is a 100mm macro, the 50mm macro would probably be more appropriate for firearms due to working distances, etc.

I have included links to the fullsize images as well, to illustrate what a quality 20+ megapixel sensor and lens can do both at long distances down to macro.

So what is the trick to get the depth of field like that? I always end up with one spot in focus.

Used a F-Stop of f25, which requires a bunch of light, but also gives the depth of field required. You can use online calculators like - http://www.dofmaster.com/doftable.html to determine the required F-stop for the focus depth required.

Also if you use Mozilla Firefox, there is a handy plugin that provides EXIF information for each shot that I post (your right click on the image).. which shows things like ISO, shutter speed, F-stop, and lens used… Handy for reverse engineering a shot.
