buzz
do Julia's auctions get high prices?
m60mgman
I looked a few auction prices up over the past few years. The gavel prices aren't bad but adding 15% or more for auction fees makes the total price a bit high. Some guns sell for much more than they should, it all depends on the bidders at the time. There aren't many (any) huge bargains that I've seen recently.
giantpanda4
The next item on the list was 3751, an 18 round shot mag and 4 boxes of shot cartridges. Went for $1,200 +BP. So I think that might have been a deal - at least nearer to the market that a lot of other things. Julia does make a beautiful catalog, and sometimes gets the bids way up there. But the first (lot 3748) overstamp for totalling around $26K seems at or below market right now to me. I did not dig into it's condition though. Across the road - literally - Poulin usually sells the Julia seconds... They usually have their auction the four days preceeding Julia. I have bought many items there that were overlooked but the next day Julia items went crazy. Do your homework, deals might be had, but for a big item I suggest a trip to the beautiful NE in Fall to look first!
Sig
I believe lot 3748 was noted in the condition as refinished
CptCurl
Lot 3748 not only was refinished, but had been re-barreled also. http://jamesdjulia.com/wp-content/uploads/images/auctions/386/images/lrg/49296a18.jpg http://jamesdjulia.com/wp-content/uploads/images/auctions/386/images/lrg/49296a18x1.jpg It brought $25,875.00. http://jamesdjulia.com/item/3748-386/ Curl
CptCurl
Lot 3749, the '21A, seemed the best of the three, and it brought the best money: $36,800.00. http://jamesdjulia.com/wp-content/uploads/images/auctions/386/images/lrg/49296a17.jpg http://jamesdjulia.com/wp-content/uploads/images/auctions/386/images/lrg/49296a17x1.jpg http://jamesdjulia.com/item/3749-386/ The description makes it sound like its bore is a bit rough. CptCurl
Lot 3750 is a rewat with a non-original barrel and other issues. It brought $24,150.00. http://jamesdjulia.com/wp-content/uploads/images/auctions/386/images/lrg/49370a1.jpg http://jamesdjulia.com/wp-content/uploads/images/auctions/386/images/lrg/49370a1x1.jpg http://jamesdjulia.com/item/3750-386/ Curl Edited October 9, 2015 by CptCurl
CptCurl
I did not attend the auction and have no more information than what appears on the website. I confined my bidding to double rifles and single shot rifles. My piggy bank now has a big hole in it. Curl
CptCurl
Pardon me for going off-topic, but the most astounding result in my opinion was the 1911A1 from 1938 that brought $51,750.00. http://jamesdjulia.com/item/1291-386/ Somebody knew something that I don't know!
