Sapper
I just found out that ATF approved the transfer of my BM59, it only took a total of nine (9) months. So, before I take it out to the range, what should I know?
MRJ
Sapper - If you're familiar with M1 and/or M1A/M14 rifles, you've got a general feel of what is required for a BM59. Many BM59 parts such as the bolt, extractor,op rod, trigger housing are modified M1 pieces. Lubrication practices applicable to the M1 work for the BM59 also. Probably the only additional tool you might need to purchase if one was not included with your rifle is a 6mm hex wrench for the BM59 gas cylinder plug. I think you will be happy with your purchase. Let us know how it runs. MRJ
Sapper
MRJ- Actually, I am more familiar with M16s and M60s, where you just spray in some CLP and call it a day as far as lubing it before shooting. Where should I lubricate it? I read something saying that I should use grease, as opposed to CLP... is this true? If so, what is the best type? I'll post some images of it once it arrives. Thanks
MRJ
The BM59 is a grease lubricated weapon. I still use GI rifle grease MIL G-46003 but I 'm sure others use Tetra Grease, Lubriplate, etc. with good results. I lubricate the following points: Receiver - bolt lug track, op rod slot Op rod - bolt lug recess, guide tab, opening to spring tunnel Barrel - bottom of barrel in contact with wide area of op rod Op rod spring and spring guide The above areas are where wear occurs as evidenced by bright metal. I'm sure some may lubricate different or additional points. Looking forward to seeing your photos.
