bm59collector
Recently I saw a BM59 grenade sight being offered on 'evil' bay by a gentleman in Italy - recognized it and have been looking for one since 1992. Reese was sold out of them in the 80's. I won the bid, got the sight but had no way of attaching it to my rifle, so I gave Collen at Reese a call, described what I needed, a gas spindle valve with one side roughly the size of a quarter to attach a grenade sight to. She figured out what I needed. Here's two pictures, one showing the sight attached to the spindle valve - It attaches by pressing in on the center of the sight and twisting it onto the spindle valve. The other photo shows the actual spindle valve. Advice - pick up the parts whenever you can - the spindle valve cost me $25 & just watch and see what Andy in Italy lists on 'evil' bay. The spindle valve is flat on one side so the tri-comp can be unscrewed without removing the spindle. http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i236/ffl-transfers/close-upsindle-1.jpg http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i236/ffl-transfers/grenadesight.jpg

bm59collector
Mike - when you talk to Colleen, just tell her that you want the spindle valve like she recently shipped to Art in Connecticut - she should remember. You need to remove the current gas valve and replace it with the spindle, which comes with the castellated nut & a very small 'roll' pin to lock it in place. Once you get everything lined up, tap the roll pin in place to lock the castellated nut tight and you'll be all set. Everything will make sense when you have the parts in hand. mikebaker1129
I do not have a gas valve installed .My gas system is stripped will these parts work in place of the gas valve ? Thanks in advance ! Mike
bm59collector
Mike - without the gas valve installed, no it will not work. Andy on E-Bay is selling BM59's gas cylinders - replace your current gas cylinder with one of the ones he's selling, then you use the spindle valve, but then you also need the fold down grenade sight. you need more info we'll take this off line. What it sounds like, you have the gas valve from a BM62.
mikebaker1129
No , the gas cylinder that I have looks just like the ones on ebay . I do have 2 BM62's but I picked this BM59 cylinder up at a gunshow . I also picked up everything sans the spindle valve from MRJ . Thanks for the pics ! I think that I will be able to put it all together when I get around to ordering the spindle valve. Mike
bm59collector
Mike - if you look at the FA BM59 that Ruben M. has for sale on Strum http://i17.tinypic.com/2r6p0qw.jpg you'll have a better idea by looking down onto the top of the rifle how everything goes together. You'll see the side of the spindle sticking out. Don't know how long this link will work because they disappear once the gun is sold - good luck, and parts are becoming harder to find. Spoke to Ken Christie on 30 round Reising mags, sold me 2 and said he was 'cleaned out' on the Reising parts - I think this is the 'calm before the storm' period. Kenshi
Is there some confusion that there are two different spindle valves? One type allows the mounting of the grenade flip up sight (direct sight) and at the same time also allows the mounting of the indrect sight on the end of the spidle valve (illustrated in this thread). The other type ONLY allows the flip up sight to be used (illustrated here) http://www.autoweapons.com/photosn/533bm59e.jpg.
